The Storm of the Decade

We were away from school last Friday due to a severe storm that forced people indoors and cut power to lots of homes. The following is a piece of writing created from that motivation:

On Thursday 20th June there was a storm. A terrible storm that many people compared to the Wahine disaster of the year 1968.

More than 25,000 houses in the Wellington region lost their power, and the total cost to repair all of the damage will easily be more than $1,000,000.00. The roofs were blown off many houses and some houses were completely demolished. At Wellington Airport, many flights were delayed due to debris on the runway and Air New Zealand cancelled most of their flights.

In Eastbourne, some boulders came out from under the the train tracks, making them unusable. Also, part of the beach wall in Petone collapsed.

This storm has truly taken the title of storm of the decade and maybe even storm of the century. Good luck to all of the workers that are fixing the damage and cleaning up the gigantic mess.
