Calvin Nicholls paper sculpture

I think that this video is interesting and creative because it is made of paper not feathers and that it would take a lot of skill and patience to make it.

Production

This year for the school production, the whole school is doing a pantomime of Cinderella called Cinderella and Rockerfella. In the production, there are 6 fairies: an evil fairy, the fairy Godmother, and the Fairy brigade. My character is Fairy Nuff, one of the four fairies in the Fairy Brigade. I know most of my lines now, but some of my lines constantly get altered. I also have to sing a song with the rest of the Fairy Brigade which I don't really want to do, but I don't have a choice.

My Latest Assignment

A couple of weeks ago, my whole class was given an assignment that's due today. Everyone had to study a Maori tribe and write an essay about it. I chose to study Te Ati Awa and my essay is 754 words long.

100 word challenge

As I search through the forest I hear screaming. It sounds like a girl. I run through the grassy landscape, I hear the flow of the river, it feels like I haven’t had a drink in days. The noise is getting closer and closer, I feel like I can just reach out and she will be there. After what feels like five minutes I find an opening and then I saw bright light. I feel dizzy and fall. Later I wake to find that I had left my light on.

100 Word Challenge

NOT A TRUE STORY …

Here is a story that’s based on absolutely nothing:

One day, I was frolicking around the room like young children often do. I was simulating ballet although I only did dancing for a single term when I was five and I reviled it.

My sister was telling me to stop, but I wouldn’t, so I started spinning through the air, and I landed on the ground.

 Suddenly, I heard a crack …

And a sharp pain in my leg …

I had broken it!

Not a true story.

Google Tricks

This is the usual way of searching on Google, however there are easier ways to do it.
Speech marks make it easier to search a specific topic such as stratus clouds.
Looking up the direct website is a good way, also by putting "site" first helps.
If you are looking up "stratus clouds" it might come up with definitions and things like that so put minus on stuff you don't won't to come up. It really helps you search up specific stuff.

My Speech

This is a video of my speech that I did about Hurricane Irene. I think I did well because on my score card, it said that I used three known language features, had eye contact 75% of the time, and got an overall score of 20/24. However, I think I could have had a better visual aid, because all I had was a small map.

I was really nervous before I started, especially because I went first, although I felt really good when I had finished it.

How to create an Infographic

Here is a list of instructions to create an infographic. There are quite a few programs that you can use, but I used "Pictochart".

1) Choose a subject (e.g clouds).
2) Sign in (or create an account).
3) Delete all the irrelevant text that is already there.
4) Drag a text box to where you want to type and adjust.
5) Start typing.
6) If you run out of space in your box, make it bigger or add another one.
7) Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6.

Add images and change background colour if you wish. An infographic shouldn't take any longer than two hours to create.

MInions Playing Sport

Below, you will see some videos of the minions from Despicable Me playing various sports including soccer and tennis (my two favourite sports) and almost playing golf (my favourite one of these videos). I like these videos because they combine two things I love: sport and minions, and I hope that you enjoy these videos too.

Tech

This term for tech, I'm doing hard tech with Mr P (he's awesome). I've already finished my door hanger which I put minions on (my little sister loves it). I'm currently working on a pencil case and a pendant. The pencil case is made out of metal and you can't buy them anywhere, you have to make them in Mr P's class. My favourite tool to use is the electric sander because it's really easy to use. I also like using the saw, the electric saw (although I was scared of it at first) , and the drill. As well as those things, I really enjoyed painting the minions and my initials on my door hanger.

I knew that hard tech would be my favourite thing about tech, but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I do.

Despicable Me 2

This is now my favourite movie ahead of Battle Las Angeles and MIB3. When I saw it, I couldn't stop laughing because it was so funny. It included the minions which are soooo cute although not always very smart.

Here is a quote from the movie that I found quite funny: 'May I be the first to say... ew!"

I enjoyed this movie because this movie because it was funny, especially when the minions did stupid things like flying each other like kites from moving cars.

9.5/10

Minion song (Banana)

Above is a video of the minions from Despicable Me singing a song about a fruit that they love - bananas.

Auckland

A couple of weeks ago, I went to Auckland with my family. It was the day after the big storm, that meant two things: if I wasn't going I wouldn't have gone to school anyway, and a building near the runway fell down in due to the storm, so our flight got delayed because there was debris on the runway. When we got to the airport, we had breakfast in the Mojo lounge. It was the best breakfast I've ever had.

After a few hours, we finally got on our plane, but it was too windy to open the cargo door, so our luggage had to fly up on the next flight. The next flight was the next morning, so we had to buy PJ's, tooth brushes, etc. Unfortunately, it was the one day Farmers wasn't having a sale.

One night, we went out to an amazing Italian restaurant where the portions are quite big, even if you order off the childrens' menu. I had the spaghetti bolognese, it was very nice.

When we were at the airport to catch our flight home, we finally got our luggage, but Dad had to check it in again. I got a lot of my assignment done at the airport when we were waiting for our flight which was delayed 45 minutes.

I really enjoyed going to Auckland despite the luggage issue, and I hope you enjoyed reading about it.

The Storm of the Decade

We were away from school last Friday due to a severe storm that forced people indoors and cut power to lots of homes. The following is a piece of writing created from that motivation:

On Thursday 20th June there was a storm. A terrible storm that many people compared to the Wahine disaster of the year 1968.

More than 25,000 houses in the Wellington region lost their power, and the total cost to repair all of the damage will easily be more than $1,000,000.00. The roofs were blown off many houses and some houses were completely demolished. At Wellington Airport, many flights were delayed due to debris on the runway and Air New Zealand cancelled most of their flights.

In Eastbourne, some boulders came out from under the the train tracks, making them unusable. Also, part of the beach wall in Petone collapsed.

This storm has truly taken the title of storm of the decade and maybe even storm of the century. Good luck to all of the workers that are fixing the damage and cleaning up the gigantic mess.

Tech

For the first six days of every term, not including Wednesdays, my class goes to Hutt Intermediate to do technology. Last term, I did cooking and this term, I did sewing. When I was doing sewing this term, I made a scarf and I barely finished it in the time we had. When I did cooking last term, we made something different every day. I enjoyed making chocolate pudding the most. Both things were a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to doing hard tech next term.

My maths focus

For maths at the moment, I've been focussing on multiplication and division. I've been learning and revising strategies to make equations easier to solve. These strategies are mostly things like place value partitioning (PVP), doubling and halving, tripling and thirding, etc. Lots of the multiplying and dividing I'm doing includes decimals.

The Croods

On Easter Saturday, I went with my family to see a movie called The Croods. Here is a review of the movie.

THE CROODS

This movie is about a family of cavemen/cave women called the Croods. They are the only cave people left because all of their neighbours were killed by vicous animals. They meet a man who predicts that "the end" is coming and they have to find new land.

I found this movie to be mostly enjoyable, however, I found some parts to be quite annoying in some ways. It was also very funny in some parts.

I give this movie a rating of:

                                                   7/10
